3 Cool Down Ab Stretches

When exercising, many people know that it is very important to stretch before working your muscles. However, it is often overlooked that it is equally as important to stretch your muscles post-workout to ensure that they do not tense up in the hours afterward. Here is a list of 3 important cool down stretches that you should complete after every ab workout.

(1)Lying Neck Pull: Lie on your back with both legs bent and your feet firmly flat on the floor. Grasp the back of your head with your fingers, resting your palms on the top of your head. Exhale and slowly pull your chin down towards your chest, aiming to keep your upper back in contact with the floor. This will help to loosen all of the muscles in your abs to help them from tightening up.

(2)Hands Interlocked Over Head: Interlock your fingers above your head, palms facing upwards. Exhale and push your hands further above your head. You should also feel this stretch in your shoulders and back, which is important because often times during an ab workout, these muscles are worked just as much.

(3)Looking at Ceiling: Begin the stretch by kneeling on the floor, holding your heels with both hands. Slowly exhale, lifting your buttocks up and forward while taking your head backwards. This will arch your back. Again, not only does this stretch your abs, but also your back.

Every good workout ends with a few good cool down stretches that affects all of the muscles used. By using these cool down stretches, you will ensure that your ab muscles will be less sore the following day, allowing you to work them even harder the next day.
